Naked For Peace

On Nov. 14,2002, artist Donna Sheenan and 50 of her friends who in their bid to attract the news media to the cause of Peace lay down naked to form the word PEACE on Love Field in Marin County, Ca. After seeing the picture on the Internet, I had to go to Marin County and meet this inspired woman and her friends

The sincerity of these women as well as their audacious creativity encouraged me to help Alan Moore, director of 'Musicians and Fine Artists for World Peace' organize and create a Naked For Peace action in my city, San Francisco, envisioning a message reflective of San Francisco made up of couples or friends, all ages over 18 yrs, all ethnic, cultural or sexual orientation to spell out 'Make Love Not War'.

Three women stripped naked in front of U.S. Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman on Wednesday in a protest over genetically modified U.S. soybeans.

As clothed demonstrators threw seeds and held up a banner reading ``Ban the Gene Bean'' the three women stripped off to reveal slogans saying ``The Naked Truth'' painted on their bodies.

The protest, the latest in Europe over the past week to try to keep the beans from going on sale, disrupted the start of a news conference called by Glickman at the U.N. Food and Agriculture (FAO) World Food Summit in Rome.

``We are all happy we live in a free society...thank goodness for liberty and freedom of speech,'' Glickman said.

He drew laughs himself when he removed his jacket and remarked that he had no plans to strip off as well.

Italian police, caught off guard by the protest at a summit surrounded by massive security, had to be called to remove the demonstrators, who kicked over plants in a minor scuffle.

``We're not part of any organisation. We're protesting against the genetic engineering of soybeans,'' said one of the women, a young Italian who identified herself as Olivia.

A young male demonstrator, whose media credential badge identified him as Briton Joseph Ryan, said: ``The U.S. is happy to promote the growth of genetic products which can only help transnational corporations to dominate the market.''

Protesters trying to keep the modified beans out of Europe this week chained themselves to gates in Germany, occupied the office of the Austrian health minister and climbed to the roof of the headquarters of Swiss food group Nestle SA.

Environmentalists led by the Greenpeace group say they worry that U.S. chemicals group Monsanto Co's Round Up Ready soyabean, modified to resist the company's Round Up herbicide, could be a threat to health.

Nude Beaches in Queensland

There are no legal nude beaches in Queensland. A recent move to legalise nude beaches was blocked by the Queensland Government because of a fear of deviants who may be attracted to such a beach.

Of course, the illegality of nude bathing doesn't stop many people from partaking in this liberating experience. Some of the more secluded beaches in the north of Queensland are ideal for nude sunbathing. But beware of the harsh sunrays beaming upon your sensitive body parts - you might be very uncomfortable the next day if you don't apply sunscreen!

According to the Free Beach Association of QLD (FBA), a Queensland member based organisation who lobbies the Queensland government to allow for 'clothes optional' beach in QLD, there are a number of locations whic are known for their unofficial status as a location to shed your garb, but beware as it is an illegal practice, and police do fine nude people on these beaches.

FBA mentions on their website that the Sunshine Coast continues to be a magnet for nude beachgoers, and Australian naturists, and although the area between Granite Bay and Alexandria Bay at Noosa Heads is a nude hot spot, as walking tracks within National Parks have been upgraded, much of this area is no longer suitable to clothing optional bathing.
